Atelier Firis The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey is a sequel to the well known JRPG that got a lot of new features. The role of the protagonist is played by a girl named Phiris. She's spent her entire life in a mining town, dreaming of someday being outside of it. With the help of the characters from the previous installment she finds herself in the Alchemists' Academy, where her incredible ability to sense crystals comes in handy. Now she needs to pass all her exams in a year to get her diploma and stay in this amazing place.

The game is an ARPG in an open world where every action, be it fighting monsters or cutting down a tree, costs energy points that can be recharged in tent checkpoints. The gameplay includes completing story and side quests, if the gamer can fit in the given time frame, he can enjoy the further gameplay indefinitely. It consists of research, extraction of resources and subsequent crafting, communicating with assorted NPCs who give the heroine nonsensical and hilarious errands.
