Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is one of the first arcade-style 3D racing games that differs from racing simulators by its simple handling and total lack of car simulation. The game offers the user exciting race modes, including: "Pursuit, Tournament, Single, Network and Quick Start modes. Although the first two modes offer the player to take part in racing competitions on the tournament ladder, there is one significant difference between them. The fact is that in the so-called "Pursuit" to illegal rides are joined by traffic cops and, as a consequence, the contest turns into a chase. In "Championship", in turn, the cops do not interfere with street racers to show each other their superiority on the road. "Network Race" offers the gamer to compete in the racing craft with other players over the Internet or through a local connection. In "Single Competition", the player gets to customize the race himself, such as choosing the difficulty of the opponents and their number. "Quick Start" differs from "Single" in that the race conditions, the track, the car, the difficulty of the opponents and their number are determined at random. Whichever mode the gamer chooses, he will always get for the victory of so-called bonus points NFS. The latter allow the player to unlock new tracks and vehicles.
